There's been several times the car smells like rotten eggs. It used to be only in the outside of the car, but now it's migrated into the car. We have spoken to the service writer at the local Mazda garage. He said he's heard of a few complaints and try a higher octane/ different gas station. The smell persists and seems to be getting stronger. Any suggestions short of selling the car? Thanks for your time. Kim and Nancy Lake

They need to take the car check for codes and make sure all the sensors operating properly. It sounds like the O2 sensor is sticking. Thank you

Good afternoon,

The smell comes from excessive fuel in the exhaust from the engine. When it gets to the converter, it mixes with all the chemicals inside and the result is sulfur.

The converter will have to be replaced as it is now contaminated. Before that is done, the reason for running rich has to be determined and repaired.
