We have a lifter noise that seems to be growing. The cause for the issue was an engine case leak which is known to happen in this vehicle, hence the issue was under warranty. When it was serviced for the engine case leak the shop failed to put oil in it. This was discovered several days later.

Now given the circumstance of low oil in both situations:

Can low oil cause a lifter tick?

Does a lifter issue cause problems with performance of the vehicle.

Does an lifter issue have potential to cause further issues? If so, what are they?

Yes low oil will cause a lifter to make noise but if you fill it and it still does thenit may be a bad lifter or a bad camshaft due to the low oil and what you are hearing is the cam wearing and continuing to wear down the lifter causing to much clearance. Have it checked out. If it's just a lifter noise then have it fixed. If they don't want to fix it call ford and tell them what has happened. Just dont' tell the dealer you are going to call ford.
