WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM IS FOR THIS SCRAPING SOUND COMING FROM FRONT OF CAR IN MY JDM TYPE R.

2009 Honda Civic • 15,500 miles

Hi, there is a scraping sound coming from the front left of the car the moment the car is moving/rolling. It does not matter whether I am in gear or neutral (6 spd manual tranny), braking or moving or cornering. The sound is constantly there from the moment the car moves and is rotational like metal on metal scraping. It gets louder when I'm driving past walls or curbs where the sound will bounce back. I've changed wheel bearings, had my brakes checked, filed down to smoothen the pads which have a lot of life left and refitted back, dust shield pushed back and is not touching the rotors and was told my brakes were working fine and yet this sound persists. Upon jacking the car up and spinning the wheels freely by hand, the sound does not appear so I've narrowed it down to sound happens all the time regardless of speed or gear or braking but only when the car is rested on its weight. The rotational scraping sound quickens as speed of car increases. Turning car left or right makes no difference. I've run out of ideas - Please advise what it is!

Any change in the noise when brake is slightly depressed, just enough to get the pads touching the rotor?

Since noise is related to tire rotation, apart from those you have done, the axle shafts would be the thing missing. Check and ensure there are no abnormalities and it could be the shaft seals that are dry or something is brushing against the seals.

Btw try swapping the wheels.

Thank you, I will try swapping wheels next. Btw, the noise remains exactly the same whether im braking softly or hard or not braking at all. The noise does not care whether I'm in gear or neutral, braking or not, turning corners hard or gently. It is significantly louder on the left side which is why I suspected the front left wheel brakes or bearings at first. I'm not sure what to look out for when it comes to axle shafts.

Is axle shaft the same thing as drive shaft? Do you know where I can get diagrams or schematics for such so I may check? Thank you!

Yes, axle shaft = driveshafts.
