Back in March of this year with 15,500 miles the truck stopped running just shut off. Towed it to the dealer and was told the next day that it had 8 bent valves. They put a new engine in under warranty. Now with 21,000 miles I have what sounds like lifters tapping and the truck seems sluggish and I'm getting 15 to 17 mpg where I was getting 20 to 22 with the old engine.
Do you have any information concerning this problem?
Thanks, Charles

5.3 had lifter issues since they were put in service. They changed the weight of the oil to keep them quiet. I dont know about the new ones. If they put in a gm motor, it should be ok. Some of gm motors are made in mexico and they seem to be the issues.

Anyway, it is under warranty and with the issues you have had, I would go back to the dealer and make them give you an extended warranty on the motor like 10yr 100k.
