My pontiac g6 gt has had the torc converter replaced however it still shifts extremely hard around 40 mph. What is going on? Could it be my lifters?

Was the work done by a transmission shop? They should know why it still shifts hard?

No it can't be your lifters. Also, check fluid level and condition of fluid. An over fill or under fill will cause you major problems.

Also, all tranny shops aren't created equal. Do your homework.

The torque converter is basically a fluid clutch, the I would be thinking that it is more pump pressure related or a sticky shift valve, a competent transmission workshop will be able to diagnosis this fault.

Is it going into overdrive at around 40? Count the shifts. Should be number 4? The first shift is usually very quick after takeoff when warmed up so you might miss it. The torque converter has the 4th (overdrive) gear clutch in it.
