When you remove the front covers and expose the gears. Line up the marks and paint them into the covers.

Why are you removing the heads.

And does it have to be in nuatral or is park ok coz it is locked in park some electronic thing to not let u shift without car running I guess! There is a circle indent on the gear do I just line that up with the groove? I'm new to this if u can't tell!

The head will have to be sent out to be pressure tested to verify if it is cracked or not.

It is not necessary to be in neutral. The transmission being locked up does not affect the engine.

To line up the marks, you might need to make anything between 1 up to 40 revolutions of the crankshaft.

Which engine do you have?
