I have the same issure on 2007 Mercury Mountaineer. It has now started shifting hard when going up hills and the temp gauge will read hot. When I tap on break or accelerate to force vehicle to change gears, the temp gauge goes back to mid-range. Shop said no computer codes detected and they couldn't duplicate hard shifting nor hear the loud fan noise.
