My engine in my car keeps over heating, there is build up somewhere and its causing my coolant to squirt out and my check engine light comes on. What causes my car to do that?

To add to this, even if the fans aren't working, you shouldn't be having a problem at cruising speed. If there was even one serious overheat in the past, there is a real good change of a blown head gasket now and it will have to be chemical test for that.
