2005 Chevrolet Malibu Repair Question

Chevrolet Malibu Dealer Problem
I have a 2005 Malibu Maxx. The centre high mount light (brake light) is burnt out.
The part is: GM Performance 22717854 LAMP ASM-HIGH MT STOP
It's an LED light, and from what I can tell, I can't just replace the bulb, but have to replace the entire light fixture.
Is there a way it could be something else? (fuse, etc?). I think it's the light as I was told before that 1/2 were not working and now they're all burnt out.
The other question is can I change this for the other type of light fixture that is non-LED (available in some Maxx's). The cost of the LED unit is $85+ where I live, and only seems to be available at the dealership.
Any help would be gladly welcomed.

it has to be replaced as a unit. go to gm parts direct .com you'll probalby find it cheaper there and they will send to your home. just go to catalog and type in vin.
