I have 2004 nissan maxima. My car wont start when I turn the ignition I have to hit the gas pedal once or twice. Problem just started happening since the cold weather came. I checked battery and it has a liquidy gummy white debris on it. Is my problem just the battery? If I replace it will this aleviate the starting of the engine problem

Is that gummy stuff on the posts? Also. I dont think pumping the gas is helping you to start. Its just coincidental I think.(Just seems that way). IF that stuff is on the posts I would clean it off(carefully) and scrape them and the inside of the cables clean so that you have a nice strong connection, and see what happens
