I have a 2004 Mitsubishi Endeavor. Recently, when I put gas in my car, no matter the amount or where I get gas, the car doesnt want to start. If I put my foot on the gas peddle, all the way to the floor and then start it, it starts fine. It runs fine otherwise, only when putting gas in do I have a problem. Its doing it no matter how much gas I put in, or what kind of gas I put in. I could put $20 in it and it does it every time.I am wondering if it has something to do with my evap sensor.
Do you
have the same problem?

Hello,

This sounds like you have a weak fuel pump. When it doesn't start can you hear the pump in the tank?

Here is a guide that will help you find the problem and get back on the road.

Please run some tests and get back to us so we can continue helping you.

Cheers, Ken

The battery is brand new and the meter reading is 12.4 volts My wife told me a few days later that the lights were dimming while she was driving I got the car started with a jump and checked the the battery again the meter read 12.4 volts I changed the alternator and now the car won't start at all. I got a jump and when the jumper cables were removed the car died. Also upon subsequent attempts the jumper cables were removed and the car ran on its own but the alternator still isn't charging the battery. I have checked every fuse and they are all good. When I turn the key I get a grinding type sound too. Thanks for the help.

12.4 isn't to good it shold be 12.7 check what i've pointed to in drawing as it may be a fusible link that has burnt up. Charge battery and have checekd as well as load test. If bad take back to wher eyou go t it.

My Endeavor has over 154000 miles. It starts and runs fine in the morning. I go to work and at 5 PM it will not start. The starter turns the engine. But it seems as if there is no spart plug sparks to make the engine run. If kept inside in a cool garage it will start. But parked in the sun it will not start. One day I started it in an open ended garage and put the heater on hot and high. When it was warm/hot inside the car, I turned it off. It would not start immediately afterwards.
Any help would be appreciated.

Is the alternator a rebuilt unit? What is the charging voltage now?
PCM is the Power Control Module, meaning the engine computer.

Scan for codes and check fuel pressure with a gauge auto parts rent it. Make sure fuel has no more than 10% alcohol in it.

Either the alternator is bad or you have a broken connection between alternator and battery.

Test the voltage between the alternator main mast. If it is higher than 13v, the alternator is charging but connection between battery and alternator is open.

You probe the large wire with your vom positive an put the negative to ground while it is running. In your case it wil be teh position B on the alternator normally marked on the connector. It should read at least 13 volts if it does and it doesn't read the same voltage on teh other side of th e fusible link in the picture then the link is bad/burnt

Ok guys it is fixed and you'll never believe what the problem was. On the positive battery connector there is an inner sleeve on the clamp well it worked loose and it was arcing with the battery post and shorting it out. So the fix was to put another terminal connector on and just like that it works. But now the dome lights don't go out when the car is turned off and the door is closed. But thanks for all your help it was worth the donation.

You're welcome.

The Dome light is linked to the ETACS ECU and you would need specialised scan tools to check/test/diagnose problem.
