Jeep slowing while in drive

2004 Jeep Liberty Yesterday while driving my Jeep Liberty acted like someone had just stepped on the brakes as well as the gas. I had not applied the brakes. The vehicle was going about 35mph and slowed to 20mph. After I stopped and started I had to put car in reverse and then in drive to release the pressure of the brake.

Might be a rear drum shoe issue?
