2004 Grand Cherokee engine periodically revs when in overdrive

While riding at 65 - 70 mph the tach periodically jumps from 2100 to 2500 rpms and back. Transmission fluid is clean and full.

Hi this undoubtedly a trans slip possibly caused by the trans or a input output sensor. Or computer. You will need to have trans scanned for fault codes this will tell you exactly what is happening. Good luck

I have seen a erratic throttle position sensor cause the torque converter clutch to disengage and engage causing a 200-300 rpm surge. I would look into that first - it usually only fluctuates a couple of 1/10ths of a volt while the throttle is steady which wouldn't trigger a trouble code. I've seen this on a few Grand Cherokees with the 4.0LI6 and the old 42re trans.

Mikey is right. I am sorry I mis read your post torque lock up is most likely the prob.
