2004 Ranger has a squealing sound coming from driver side rear when I floor the accelerator and ceases when it kicks into gear. Took it into the shop and they were unable to figure it out.

So when driving down the road the left rear wheel squeals? You said when it kicks into gear the squealing goes away? What are you talking about when you say that?

I dont believe it is the wheel. The sound is somewhere in the rear. Its definitely not the under the hood. When I floor the accelerator (say to get on the freeway) I hear a squealing sound (most were saying they thought it might be the serpentine but its not) and then when the truck kicks into the highest gear, the squealing noise goes away.

The first thing we need to do is figure out where the noise is coming from. Since it only happens when driving your going to have to get a chassis ear listening system that has aligator clips with microphones on them and a **** that switches to differnt microphones.

The mics on the aligator clips have to be close to the noise because they dont pick up outside noise. They also have a wireless mic verison that is couple of hundered by the same brand if your intrested.

Wow, never even heard of these. Going to have to pull some money together and get one. Do places like Autozone rent these units?

I have never seen auto zone rent anything like that. Does hurt to ask though. That wired one is cheap they used to be almost 300 for that one. The wireless one was over 400 when it came out. Let me know what you find.
