I have the SXT model of the Neon with an automatic transmission. The car has been leaking small amounts transmission fluid on a consistent basis. It has been dripping from around the bottom of the airbox. This morning the check engine light came on and it wouldn't shift from first gear. It ran fine yesterday with the exception of a 'delay' in shifting when I first started driving it. (By delay I mean I would pull out of the parking spot, put it in drive, it would start to go, feel like the car was in neutral where it would rev but get no power to go, then it would finally 'catch' and drive normally.)

I dumped a bottle of Lucas transmission fluid into the car while at idle then shut the car off. After about 5 minutes, I tried to reset the check engine light with no luck. It started to shift and drive normally with no 'delay'; however, the check engine light is still on.

I know there is a leak and have tried the Lucas 'leak stop' formulas with my transmission fluid before. Are there any ideas as to where it may be leaking or what could possibly cause this problem? Thank you for your help!

These cars are infamous for leaking around the solonoid pack, it is right above the tranny pan or the front ( radiator) side of the trans. You have to teplace the solonoid pack.
