Car is sluggish at low speeds and surges at stops. What would cause this problem?

The car seems sluggish at times seems to hesitate at speeds of 25 to 50 mph. When I stop at a light, the car engine surges as if pressure is being applied to the gas pedal. I sometimes put the car in nuetral in order to aviod the surge.

Check the idle air control valve. It is resposnible for maintaining a smooth idle. Also, check for vacuum leaks.

As far as high speeds, start with checking fuel pump pressure. Make sure it is within spec. Also, if the check engine light is on, have the computer scanned to identify trouble codes.
