Why does my check engine light come on and why is my catalyst system efficiency below the threshold?

I have p codes 0431, 0171, and p code 0133 throwing on my 2003 mitsubishi eclipse....the gears sometimes slip and my check engine light is on....some professional at firestone has said that I might need to replace some sort of sensor close to the maf sensor....maybe the air temperature sensor? What am I to do?

you need to have it diaged properly to determine the exact failure. from the looks of your codes, the cat converter has an issue, the intake air sensor has an issue and there is most likely a vacuum leak for the 171.
