FORD EXPLORER RPM PROBLEM

2002 Ford Explorer • 260 miles

My 2002 ford explorer sport trac jumps up and down on the RPMS when ideling, when I stop at a red light it will idle about 600 rpms then jump down to 100rpms, sometimes it will jump 600rpms and just die/stall. Any idea what it may be? This is my first car

Check for vacuum leaks. The pcv hose is common. Check the idle air control as it may be failing

Try cleaning the IAC (Idle Air Control ) Valve. [A picture of the IAC is attached] didn't know which engine you had.

Use carb cleaner to clean the IAC and its intake manifold ports.
