I posted here a couple days ago expressing drivetrain problems with my Protege. It has progressed. Originally it was just noise coming from what sounded like my front axle or tranny, and a rattling noise coming from what sounded like the clutch. It then progressed into the clutch sticking and the gears being harder to shift. Last night I took it out just down the street, and when I went to take off in 1st gear, the whole car stalled several times. It will not move now in first gear, or any gear for that matter. While pushing it back to my house, it had to be put into first gear in order for it to move, as it couldn't be pushed in neutral. When I got back, I jacked up the front and put it in first gear. The front tires moved freely as the were supposed to do, so I don't believe this is a tranny problem. Can someone please shed some light on my problem. Is this a clutch problem, or something worse? Thank you in advance.

Try disconnecting cable to trans andshifting to neutral then see if moves out of gear. It may be thecable has streteched or broken. If it still wont' get out of first with engine off then its' a trans problem or broken axle joint.
