FUEL GAUGE PROBLEM
2001 Chevrolet Monte Carlo • 6 cylinder Automatic • 155,000 miles
I have a 2001 chevrolet monte carlo ss and my fuel gauge is not working properly it either reads full or empty how do i fix this???
Could be a problem with sending unit in the tank? There should be an access panel in the trunk. At the wiring for the fuel gage sending unit, for testing, you can use a resistor, between the purple wire and the black wire with white tracer, key on, see if gage reacts to resistor, if it does, I suspect a problem with sending unit in tank. Using a 40 ohm resistor, the gage should read empty. Using a 200 ohm resistor, the gage should read full.
Radioshack usually has resistors, don't cost much.
Thanks for the help
