car wants to die at idol

when i leave work in the evening going through town it pretty much stop an go. so as i am sitting in traffic my 2000 mitsubishi eclipse v6 3.0 will drop idol from 1000 rpms to below 500 rpms. it will shake dash lights come on i give it gas to increase the rpms an it will repeat that a few times an then will contiune to stay at 1000 rpms . an then some times on take of the gas peddle is non responsive an then all the sudden it will spit an sputter then take off. could this be a fuel pump issue?

no, it sounds like a vacuum leak somewhere. get it checked to see why this is happening. it may be a very simple repair.

Iv sprayed cleaner all over the engine an have seen nothing. But would it say anything that I changed out the FPR ( fuel pressor regulator) out about three months ago. It fixed that problem on not starting the first try now it fires right up. I mean would that say anywhere where the leak may be if that is the problem? Would the vacuum leak be on the motor or at the tank somewhere like it's sucking more air than fuel sometime other than that it runs great.

Try cleaning the throttle body and idle air control valve and retest.
