when started oil pressure is around 40psi as engine comes to operating temp drops to around 20 psi (even @ highway speeds 65-70 mph) when I come to a stop pressure drops to 5 psi and engine idle drops just before that to around 500 rpm. the oil was just changed last week (10-w30)

Hello,

It sounds like you could have a faulty oil pressure sensor. That's why you are getting erratic readings to the gauge.

The minimum oil pressure at idle is 13 PSI for your jeep.
The operation oil pressure depending on the engine speed is 37-75 PSI.

Oil pressure sensor located near the oil filter on the passenger side of the engine block.

You also want to make sure that you are getting proper per to the sensor. Should get 5V to the connector.

Please let me know of any questions.

Thank you.
