Mitsubishi Galant Steering Problem

Car was recently broken into with an attempted theft. They destroyed the steering column electrics pretty badly. Had a friend replace the broken components and every thing is working fine except the odometer back light is very very dim. You can just make out the kilometerage. Any ideas? Thanks!

Power for the dash lights come from the headlight switch. Thus, it goes through the steering column. Either you have a bad connection or a bad ground.

Thanks very much for your reply. I'll have a look perhaps he didn't connect it up perhaps. I also noticed the air conditioning controls are not working on the multi communication system. I might post another question about that.
