When I use my windshield wipers (98 Mazda Protege), there is a creaky noise coming from the far left side, almost like a ratcheting noise. I'm guessing I need to either lube the motor or replace it entirely. Am I right? If so, is it relatively easy to do by myself or do I need to take it in to the mechanic?

This may be the motor or the regulator pivot, I would get a mechanic to confirm the exact problem first, it is not a hard job, but just a bit time consuming and fiddly getting the linkages in if that is the problem.

Thank you. I'll have my mechanic take a look. I have the tools, but don't have the same manual dexterity as I used to.

That may be the best thing to do then, if it is a motor or the pivots, get a few quotes you may safe a few $$. That way.
