My car is driveable, but when I press the accelerator it dosen`t seem to put the power through the car and cause it to speed up. It just revs the life out of it. I have to build the speed up really slowly which is sometimes impossible on hills and things, could you please advise me the problem and soloution and have a guess at prices

Could be caused by one of the following below

Oxygen sensor.
Catalytic converter.
Fuel injectors dirty/sticking.
Mass airflow sensor/Airflow meter.
Throttle position sensor.
Crankshaft position sensor
Knock sensor
Manifold absolute pressure sensor.
EGR Valve
Fuel pressure regulator leaking or defective fuel pump.
Fuel contamination.
Foul/defective spark plugs.
Open spark plug wires.
Ignition coil/Coil packs defective.
Incorrect ignition timing.
Cap and rotor.

Note:If it doesn't apply disregard it and keep testing.

Sounds like the transmission is slipping very badly. Continuing to drive it like that is going to overheat it and damage a lot more parts. It is possible there is a leak and the fluid is just low. That can be a very inexpensive repair but trying to drive it like that will turn it into a very expensive problem.
