1998 F150. All instruments, speedometer, & odometer stopped working after letting another mechanic work on some engine components. Instrument panel lights (check engine, ABS, brake, etc.) All work. All fuses check out O.K. We have removed all panels and confirm the wires are secure in the back of the panel.

Any ideas of what may be causing the sudden failure?

The applicable fuses, did you use a voltage tester and check for voltage. The fuses below, one is hot all the time, the other two go hot with the key on.

Well after many days of searching on the net I was unable to find any info. So I went out and started looking at it closer.

Here is what I found. The circuit board on top of the dash assembly has a wire coming out of it (computer wire). So this is flat and about two inches wide and comes from the circuit board to the dash. Where it attatches to the dash it had simply came loose.
Where it goes in you can see two clips on either side. Simoly lift those slide the wire back in and put the clips down and everything worked fine. Any questions please let me know and I can send pictures if need be. Hope this helps.
