My 1997 3.0 V6 mercury sable is idling roughly and will die when I slow down or put the car in reverse. While driving the rpms will drop 3-500 and you have to accelerate through it. What could be a possible cause? I checked oil, checked and filled coolant, and added fuel injector cleaner! What next? Please Help!

Engine running rough or misfiring can be cause by the following:

.Defective spark plugs
.Inadequate spark/coil,defective spark plug wire.
.Lack of compression
.False air leakage.
.Faulty fuel injectors.
.Insufficient fuel pressure.
.Contaminated fuel.
.EGR valve that is leaking.
.Oxygen sensors.
.Throttle position sensor.
.Manifold absolute pressure sensor
.Mass Airflow Sensor
.Idle air control valve
