Hi I purchased a honda civic vtec 97'. If I start the car and let it warm up, thereafter once its warm drive it into vtec and slow down to turn around, the car revs die under my foot, it would then **** as it dies and takes and dies continously. I would have to tap the acceleration all the time and release clutch slowly in order to drive. But if I just drive slowly avoiding vtec the car would drive fine without the revs dying. Where do I start looking for the problem?

Hi Gregg,

Is the MIL ( Check Engine) indicator showing?
Is the engine oil level correct?
What is the idling speed after warming up?
DO you have overheating or coolant losses issues?

The engine light comes on now and then, sometimes after I take it into vtec and and slow down again and the revs die, then the light comes on, and some times not. I supposed the oil level correct, the heating gauge never goes beyond hals so I am not sure about overheating. How do I check coolant loss. The idle speed varies between 500 - 900 RPM (when I start, if I push the petrol pedal to hard the the car just swings, its like I must just tap it for it to start and the revs do not remain at one level when idling, it moves up and down.
