Front wheel bearing driver side replacement instructions

DISASSEMBLY

Remove the front wheel hub/front wheel knuckle and wheel bearing assembly.

NOTE: The removal of the press-fitted front disc brake rotor shield from the front wheel knuckle is not part of normal bearing service.

Use Knuckle Puller T87C-1104-A and Hub/Bearing Remover Adapter T92C-1104-AH to separate the wheel hub from the front wheel knuckle.

NOTE: The front wheel outer bearing retainer washer is preselected to yield the correct bearing preload. Save the removed front wheel outer bearing retainer washer for use during assembly.

Remove the front wheel outer bearing retainer washer from the wheel hub.

Remove the outer front wheel bearing from the wheel hub using Bearing Pulling Attachment D84L-1123-A or equivalent, Shaft Protector D80L-625-2 or equivalent, and a press.

Remove the inner wheel bearing oil seal from the wheel hub. Discard the inner wheel bearing oil seal.
Use a large screwdriver to pry the inner wheel bearing oil seal from the front wheel knuckle bore. Discard the inner wheel bearing oil seal.
Remove the inner front wheel bearing.

Use Bearing Cup Puller T77F-1102-A and Impact Slide Hammer T50T-100-A and remove the bearing races from the front wheel knuckle.
If necessary, remove the front disc brake rotor shield from the front wheel knuckle. Use a chisel to separate the front disc brake rotor shield from the front wheel knuckle. Discard the front disc brake rotor shield.
Inspect the front wheel knuckle/wheel hub before assembling the front wheel knuckle/wheel hub.

ASSEMBLY

NOTE: If the inner or outer front wheel bearing or front wheel knuckle have been replaced, bearing preload must be checked before assembly.

If the front disc brake rotor shield was removed for replacement, install a new one using Dust Shield Replacer T94C-1175-B and Driver Handle T80T-4000-W.

Use Bearing Cup Replacer D79P-1202-A, or equivalent, and Driver Handle T80T-4000-W, and install the bearing races in the front wheel knuckle.
Pack the inner and outer front wheel bearings with Premium Long Life Grease XG-1-C, or-K, or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESA-M1C75-B.

Pack The Bearing And Hub

Pack the wheel hub area, as shown in the installed view below.

Position Bearing In Steering Knuckle

Place the inner front wheel bearing into the front wheel knuckle bore, so that it rests in a level position.

NOTE: Form the lubricant into a strip, concentrated along the edges of the inner wheel bearing oil seal lips.

Lubricate Grease Seal

Lubricate the lip of the new inner wheel bearing oil seal with Premium Long Life Grease XG-1-C, or-K, or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESA-M1C75-B.

Use Seal Replacer T87C-1175-A and Driver Handle T80T-4000-W and install the new inner wheel bearing oil seal in the bore.
Place the original front wheel outer bearing retainer washer, or the front wheel outer bearing retainer washer selected from the front wheel bearing adjustment procedure, in the front wheel knuckle bore.
Position the outer front wheel bearing in the front wheel knuckle bore.

NOTE: Form the lubricant into a strip concentrated along the edges of the inner wheel bearing oil seal lip.

Lubricate the lip of a new inner wheel bearing oil seal with Premium Long Life Grease XG-1-C, or-K, or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESA-M1C75-B.
Use Seal Replacer and Driver Handle and install the new inner wheel bearing oil seal in the front wheel knuckle bore.

Use spacer from Spacer Selection Tool T87C-1104-B and position the wheel hub/front disc brake rotor assembly in the front wheel knuckle bore and press it into position.
Install the front wheel hub, wheel knuckle and wheel bearing assembly.
