When it doesn't start, have you checked to see if there is spark and fuel to the engine?

Is the check engine light on with a trouble code for a crank or cam sensor?

It sounds like a cam sensor, but it should have set a trouble code. Check the wiring and connection to the sensor. Also, do you have a live data scanner? If you do, when the vehicle won't start, check to see if there is a crank and cam signal.

Let me know what you find.
