97 Monte carlo z34 died now wont start NEED HELP ASAP!!!

I have a 97 monte carlo z34 3.4 dohc (POS motor i know) anyways , i was driving down the highway at about 120km/h when a heard a clunk and the engine just died completely and hasnt been able to start since , you can hear the fuel pump prime , and it has brand new fuel system as it was just saftied , oil change was just done , and the car died , now i am stumped , we are tight for cash right now and kind of need this car back up and running , but dont have alot of money (new baby on the way ) to put into this thing to try to find the problem , and sure cant afford a mechanic to look it over (just put 2000$ into it for safety , mechanic did all the work) , so we need to fix the problem right the first time please if you have heard of this before let me know i am stumped.... thanks! (by the way the engine does crank , just will NOT turn over but sounds like it wants to!)(and yes it has gas 1/2 tank to be exact)

The above link explains what to look for when engine cranks but won't start.

The clunking noise prior to engine stalling does not bode well. It could mean a failed timing belt.
