WHAT IS THE PROPER WAY TO BLEED A COOLANT SYSTEM ON A CHEVY

my car runs hot one day fine the next that is why i want to bleed the systems.
The motor is 3100 sfi v6
There is a bleeder valve on the heater hose connection at the top of the motor. it has a 7 mm screw you just loosen to allow the air to escape.
Do you need to do this when it is hot or cold
