Hi, my starter solenoid is going out, and my car doesn't always like to start. Mainly when it's hot or really muggy outside. Do I need to replace the whole starter or can I fix the problem by just fixing the solenoid?

HOW LONG HAS "THAT" STARTER BEEN ON THERE?

I KNOW YOU ARE ASKING A SIMPLE QUESTION....I'M SORTA COMMITTED TO AIDING ALL I CAN

I DON'T WANT YOUR ADDRESS OR NUTHIN'----GIMME A GENERAL AREA OF WHERE YOU LIVE....I MAY BE ABLE TO HELP/ SHOW YOU SAVE A GOOD CHUNK ON YOUR REPAIR (NOW AND LATER)

......IS "ADVANCE AUTO PARTS" A LOCAL AUTO STORE FOR YOU?

MY THOUGHTS ARE.....GONNA HAVE TO PULL IT ANYWAY....REPLACE IT.....PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE IS ALWAYS A GOOD THING......'SPECIALLY IF IT'S BEEN A WELL USED STARTER (OR ANY OTHER PART)

PM IS GOOD FOR THE ENTIRE RIG---MOST PEOPLE NEGLECT DOING IT (AS PRESCRIBED ON A "TIME LINE" OR "MILEAGE" IN MOST POPULAR REPAIR MANUALS)....THE OWNER'S MANUAL TOUCHES ON IT TOO

NORMALLY, IT'S NEGLECTED TILL SOMETHING "TEARS UP/ SHELLS OUT/ MALFUNCTIONS" .......THEN WE SORTA HAVE TO GO THRU "MANY-MANY" VARIABLES TO ATTEMPT A FIX (WHEN SO MANY COULDA BEEN ELIMINATED W/ REGULAR PM) ........SO MANY TIMES THE PM WOULDA PREVENTED THE ISSUE TO BEGIN WITH!

I KNOW THIS WAS NOT "ASKED" IN YOUR QUESTION.....BUT IT IS DIRECTLY RELATED TO "NO/ SLOW/ INTERMITTENT STARTING".......SEE MY ANSWER IN THIS LINK
