This vehicle just started running rough. Then noticed idle was everywhere. (High and low). Asked mechanic and was told to clean throttle body with tooth brush and carb cleaner and check IAC. Replaced IAC because seating was worn out and dirty. Still had problem. Started up with mass air flow sensor disconnected smoothed out but idled around 2000 rpms. Replaced mass air sensor and installed new air filter now idles very high 4500 rpms. Unplugged new mass air sensor and rpms came back down to 2000. After first changing mass air sensor started up idled high then came down to about 850 but loped and missed and backfired in throttle body. Where do I go next?

In order for the RPM to run that high you have to be getting unmetered air into the system. Check it over very carefully for and air or vacuum leaks in the engine or intake snorkel.
