1996 Ford Explorer 6 Cylinder 40 Beenrunning Rough Running Great Sudden Started

My 1996 ford explorer 4.0 has been running rough for about a week. Now it is running hot. I don't know what it wrong with it but it was running great before and now it is using about twice the amount of gas too.
