Mercury Sable - 1995 3.8l automatic transmission. Suddenly the speedometer quit and transmission shifts weird. If I let the vehicle warm up it will shift ok, often not into overdrive until it's really warm. After it's really warm the speedometer starts working but the speed jumps around a mph or two and is not stable. I found one sensor for vehicle speed on the left rear side of the transaxle and changed that but it did not fix the problem. Is there another sensor since the auto parts dealer said there was and input and an output. Could that other sensor be the problem and if so where is it located?
Thanks
Sparks

The only thing on top is a multi pin connector with like 10 contacts. I can unplug the cable but there doest seem to be a retainer as if the connector is from the inside. No one answered about a likely cause. This top plug does not correspond withe either the input or output sensors is said were available at the parts counter. I've done one of those two. Explain the input and output and where the second one is please someone.
