Windshield wipers will travel too far and go off glass when car is going over 55mph and when the car is not moving and the glass is wet.

Sounds as though the wipers are out of adjustment and that can be remedied by removing them and repositioning them one or two click to the down position or resting position.

The wet that you talk about must be the washer and you don't notice that it is spraying fluid or leaking?
