I have a 93 toyota pickup 4wd and noticed the temperature gague a few days ago not registering any temperature what so ever. I was on the way to the store yesterday, and tried to pull into the road and got massive hesitation, turned around immediately and started back home when it shut off completely so i pulled to the side of the road and stopped. Had to have my sister tow me back to the house. Could i be looking at simply the thermostat or possibly the water pump? (hoping for the latter) any and all help is appreciated. And though I am female... im not totally mechanically illiterate so therefore, i can try my best to fix it myself with the right guidance. Thanks. Robin

After the engine is totally cooled down. Refill the radiator with enough water to check for leaks.

When there is no coolant in system, the temperature gauge sending unit would not work coeerctly and you could have overheated the engine badly enough to cause it not to start.

Check the engine compression to ensure the head gasket is not blown.

There isn't any issue with the coolant. I didn't mention anything about there not being any coolant. The levels are fine. What is the next course of action?

See if the above is of any help.

You mentioned the temperature gauge not registering and that could be due to no coolant in syatem as I mentioned earlier.
