1993 Pontiac Bonneville Repair Question

Topics covered: Engine, Body, Idle air control valve.
Mileage: 120,000 miles.

Asked on November 19, 2011

Engine sometimes races to 3000 RPM a few minutes after starting.

Pulling over and stopping and restarting the car immediately fixes the problem. It does not happen all the time and only when the engine is cold. It never happens when the car is at the repair shop.

It soundslike Idle Air Control Valve or a vacuum leak.
i am giving you a diagnostic walk through that will help you go through the car and find and fix common over rev issues.
It tells you how the IDLE AIR CONTROL works as well and how to check it.
You can find the IACV on the intake manifold near the throttle body.
