What would cause the air bag light on the dashboard to flash on and off

The computer detected a problem and set a diagnostic fault code in memory. The place to start is by having that code read. The most likely suspect is a broken clock spring. That is a wound-up ribbon cable in a plastic housing under the steering wheel. As it continues to break, the horn and cruise control will also stop working.
