Hi leslieannmarcobrewster,

It sounds like you have a hazard switch or flasher that is out but to be sure here is a guide to help us test the power and grounds and the brake light wiring diagrams to help you do the tests.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-check-wiring

Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know what happens.

All my brake lights are staying on even after I turn the car off and exit the car.

I have taken all the fuses out just to see if that would help and nothing changed.

Can someone advise?

Thanks

Electrical problem
2002 Hyundai Elantra 75000 miles

2002 Hyundai Elantra. After driving home one night, stopped at the gas station and noticed that the brake lights were on while the car was off.

Drove home, and noticed that the brake lights were still on, even after the lights were turned off and the engine turned off.

When pressing down on the brake pedal, the central brake light (in the back window) does not turn on, and while driving, its as if the two taillight brake lights are always depressed.

Most likely culprit is sticky/faulty brake light switch, located above brake pedal.

A small magnet the size of 2 pennies will work great. That's what I had my husband use for a temporary fix.

It cold be a shorted wire doing this but have it scanned for codes by a mechanic as it may be an ABS problem like a bad sensor or shorted wire.

When I turn off the motor and remove the key, the brake lights remain on. I have checked what I believe to be the ground near the rear of the trunk. At this time, I am pulling the fuse so that my battery won't be drained. Do I have a short somewhere maybe?
