I think my fuel pump went out but iM not sure if its that or not

I was driving down the street and went to speed up and the car did not speed up. So I pulled on to a side street and the car stopped and did not want to start back up I thought that I maybe ran out of gas because the gas gadge is messed up but when I put fuel in it, it did nothing. I tryed banging on the bottom of the gas tank while trying to start it and it also did nothing. Also after sitting outside for about a week I went out to try and start it and it no longer sparked the starter but I think that the battery died because the driver door was no closed all the way.

First, remove the battery and recharge it. You may want to have it tested at a parts store to confirm it is good. Most will do it for free. Onece the battery is good and the starter is working, you need to check fuel pressure to the engine. For detailed directions, go to our homepage under the DIY section. If the fuel pump isn't producing within spec, make sure the fuel filter

For some reason that cut me off. Make sure the fuel filter isn't plugged. If it is good, then most likely the pump is bad. Before replacing it, check for power to the pump to confirm it isn't an electrical issue.
