93 northstar. Engine runs smooth but will just quit after 10 to 20 mins. Try immediate restart and engine light comes on and will try to start but just dies. Wait approx. 5 mins and will restart, no lights, run ok for? Then will quit again. Shop has replaced fuel pump module, computor, pulled intake and rewired for wires that seemed hard or brittle, replaced ign. Lock, replaced throttle pos/sensor.I have just recieved ign. Coils, camshaft and crank pos/sensors, haven't installed yet. Car is pearl and mint cond. Just need it to run Thanks R.

Check the fuel pressure but sounds like your going to have to drop the fuel tank and replace the fuel pump.

You need to hook up a fuel pressure gauge that you can see while driving. When you have your problem check the pressure.I understand the pump is new now we need to see if its operating properly. Swaping parts wont fix this its time to do a little diagnosis. You have pressure when checking but do you have pressure after it quits? Also when it dies you can pour fuel in the throttle body to see if it starts. Push off and warmer buttons on the info panel until you see all segments lite then release if you have any codes it will tell you.

Cadieman. Fuel pump pressure at specs. The engine quits problem was the same before and after pump replaced but old pump was a little below specs so replaced. Now I'm replacing coils, crank and cam sensors. Engine light is not on at this time but can still quit running. Vehicle has factory alarm/immobilizor is it possible there may be a intermittent breakdown with sensor or relay in the alarm system?

Check the codes by pushing off and warmer buttons on the info panel. Hold until you see all segments lit. Release and write all down. It has to set something.

The theft system will not cause a stall, just a no start. Since this is a 93, injector pulse may be a bit more difficult to check, it obviously sounds like a thermal issue. There are a total of four connectors on the ignition module(under coils), one of which is a 6 pin connector with only four wires in it. That should be the connector that has the crank sensor circuits(pins a-b, and e-f). When the vehicle stalls, and won't restart, check the resistance of these sensor circuits. I would imagine you should see 900-1500 ohms.

Think we're getting somewhere gstacey, these problems also started to occur after someone pressure washed the engine. Water in/around/under coils doesn't sound good to me. Replacing the coils tomorrow, news at noon! Plus cam and crank sensors. Later R.

Did you obtain a coil/module assembly used from a salvage yard? I would be skeptical in thinking that it is just coils causing a total stall, as there are four individual. The probability of all four of them having a concern causing loss of spark would be uncommon. I would suspect a more central issue, like ignition module, or trigger(crank sensors). The cam sensor as well, will not cause a stall. If there is a fault with a cam sensor providing no signal, the usual symptom is a longer than normal crank, as it is used for #1 cylinder synchronization, and fast start.

I've been getting all new parts from Rock Auto, replacing all 4 coils, crank and cam sensor. Have allready put in new battery, ignition module, engine cont/mod computor, throttle pos/sensor, intake R&R injectors chk'd and wiring replaced, fuel pump ass. Is it possible orig. Problem has been fixed and computor has not cleared or rebooted. I've been told some shops have put a vehicle against a wall and ran for up to 1/2 hour for putor to reset. Starting to wish I kept my 55 Chev. Thanks R.

That being a 93, there is no adaptive, or relearning potential, it relies on. I am not even certain if for instance, an injector was out of resistance range(current draw), that the ECM injector driver will completely shut down. Ideally, to determine what you are losing when it stalls and won't restart, would be beneficial. The fact that it just shuts down, I would not suspect fuel pressure as requested on earlier posts. You are losing spark, injector pulse, or both.

Water in the distriber can cause this. Remove the cap and check it for water.

Hi gstacey. Shop hasn't worked on car yet, may get back Sat. They told me Ign/module was checked out before as was injector pulse. In the very beginning a coil was found to be faulty and with 185,000 miles am replacing the other 3 together with crank/cam sensors. Will give you a heads up hopefully Sat. I wish All of you a great weekend and 4th of July. Thanks R.
