1992 Proton Ecologic Repair Question

Proton persona 1.5 gls m reg
4 the past 2 weeks the car has run fine then check engine has come on and it would not idle i changed the spark plugs set them 2 right gap,ht leads,rota arm,distributer cap .now it wont start and smells of petrol its automatic

Have the computer scanned for code/s-you have a problem within the engine management system that caused the CEL to turn on-This is your starting point of diagnosis,finding out what's going on.
