Running at a fast idle my catalytic converter gets red hot. Is that normal? If not, what could cause it? Thank you.
Car pops and sputters when put in drive and quits. The same when start up. Seems to run fine at a fast idle.

At least one of the cylinder is misfiring and whern this occurs, the catalytic converter would get red hot. That explains the popping and sputtering.

plug wires two and three were crossed. Problem solved Thank you very much.
