So my jeep cherokee sport says high output on the lift gate and it has the renix distributor was wondering if its possible to use the distributor from a later year jeep the distributor in my jeep started to make a howling noise then it went dead I changed the pick up coil and put it back in it still was making the noise so I drove it about twenty miles away and it died I looked under the hood and the distributor hold down bracket broke off so the distributor came out of place causing it to die any insight into the distributor doing this would be great I don't know why it did it but when reinstalling it it seemed like it had.A lot of play hopefully it will be fixable

If the bracket is a spring type replace with a solid piece if solid then it may be something amiss with oil pump or camshaft. As far as replacing dist you CANOT use anything later than a 1994 as you have obd1. You might also check for a broken pin at gear

Do you know if any other vehicles that use the same distributor in my jeep Cherokee sport I'm going to pick and pull so if I have more options than the same jeep I might have a better chance of finding one

There but now I have another issue I turned the oil pump to ten or eleven like it should be but not sure how to find top dead center of 1 cylinder I tried. One method but no start and I can smell fuel So it's not that please help

To find tdc, pull spark plug on #1cylinder and bring up to mark on harmonic balancer when compression comes up. Check fuses 6 and 16 in pdc as well as asd relay try switching asd with a like relay
