Car died after driving for one mile

1991 Ford Escort, 1.9L, manual, car started normally, drove 1 mile, everything on car shut down, small amount of smoke from under hood, battery then completely dead, unable to jump start as it shuts down other car, found small ground wire from tranny to frame was fried.

you have a short somewhere that needs attention. if the ground wire is fried, then there is a draw that caused it. it could be a bad negative cable, alternator issue or any of another 100 things
