What causes a automatic transmission to not shift into gears. The car does go but feels like it doesn't have alot of power. It takes awhile to move from a stop. What can cause this and how would the problem be fixed?

Sounds to me like the clutches inside the transmission have failed. Take it to a transmission shop and have it diagnosed before you do any more damage to it. The likely cost for a rebuilt transmission is around $800 - $1,200 (approximately).
