1990 Chevrolet Camaro Repair Question
How do you convert the car from TBI to carbureted?
Answer
For a carburetted engine, the computer would be redundant so even if you do not take it out, it still has to be disconnected to prevent unnecessary current drain.
As to the transmission, if it fits, then it can work.
The fuel pump has to be replaced with one suitable for carburetted engines as the one for fuel injected models are too high pressured to be of any use. The wiring circuit for fule pump would have to be modified as there are no more computers to control the circuit.
u still have to replace the intake and carb.mallory ingition sys.and fuel pump that is the same pressure to start with.
We replaced the intake and put a carburetor on it. It runs ok. We took it for a test drive but still had the temp sensor hooked up to the dash. The dash was reading 260 degrees so it shut the car down. I also have a manual temp gauge that was reading normal. The car sat for an hour and then it restarted.
If we disconnect the computer, will the speedo still work on the dash? If not, how do we fix this? Thanks
You need to isolate the wiring of the distributor from the ECM to prevent the engine cutting off.
Based on schematic, the speed sensor circuit should work.
