My engine is kaput and I tried to find a used one but being so rare I could not or the price was way to high, so I researched and found a lot of different engines will bolt up, well basically the same engine used in a lot of Chrysler models, and of course the more modles the better the price for an engine and the better mileage on an engine. For example I can buy a 1995 Voyager engine with 57,000 miles for $350, same engine, SOHC but seems some changes have to be made, how radical the changes I have no idea, i.E. Motor mounts, oil pan/pump?

So my question is how much trouble will I run into getting one of the following engines to mount up to my 1989 Montero. Here is the list of cars that can be bolted up:

According to WIKIPEDIA, all these cars used the 6g72:
Applications
1990–2001 Mitsubishi GTO (aka Mitsubishi 3000GT, Dodge Stealth)
1989–1995 Plymouth Acclaim/Dodge Spirit/Chrysler Saratoga
1987–2000 Dodge Caravan/Plymouth Voyager
1990–1993 Dodge Ram 50
1988–1993 Dodge Dynasty
1988–1990 Dodge Raider
1991-1996 Dodge Stealth
1990–1995 Chrysler LeBaron
1990–1991 Chrysler TC by Maserati
1988–1989 Chrysler New Yorker
1990–1993 Dodge Daytona
1992–1994 Dodge Shadow ES
1992–1994 Plymouth Duster
1986-1992 Mitsubishi Debonair
2000–2005 Mitsubishi Eclipse
1999–2003 Mitsubishi Galant
1988-1990 Mitsubishi Sigma
1990–1998 Hyundai Sonata

Thanks

The salvage yards have an interchange book that will tell you EXACTLY which engines will fit your car. Do not rely on any other information. If the salvage yard tells you only certain engines can be used, that is a fact and those are the only engines you can use. Forget Wikipedia. Their information is not accurate.

Well sir your the expert but I have to disagree, in my research I found many articles that people did in fact change out engines, yep some of them had to drill new holes for the motor mounts, but no big deal, oil pan and pump needed a bit of working. I saw a engine with 4000 miles on it for $550. In a local yard.

Cheers
